Close Thornton Property shop hosted recently the 25th anniversary party of its manager Denis Childs. Colleagues, friends, present and past clients, partners and employees joined with Close Thornton to congratulate Denis on his long service. As well as Denis' 25 years celebration, there were also tributes made to 9 staff that have each been with the firm over 10 years. In fact, the years that the 28 Close Thornton staff have been with the firm, added together, come to a staggering 385 years, spent in service of the people of Darlington.
Since Denis started at Close Thornton in 1973, the process of conveyancing has changed enormously; from secretaries detailing the whole process in shorthand through to using case management software, email and working online. The process is now much quicker in order to keep up with the new 24-hour culture and both Close Thornton and Denis have had to change their ways of working. Although Denis has made admirable attempts to keep abreast of technology, he is the first to admit that he wouldn't have done quite so well without Denise, his assistant of 17 years. Chris Wiper, senior partner at Close Thornton said 'Looking back at the pace of change over 25 years is terrifying! The one thing that has not changed at Close Thornton though is the ethos of service to our clients and Denis is outstanding in that regard.' Denis is very close with his clients, having worked with generations of the same families: grandparents, parents and now their children.
Although Denis spends his week days at a desk, he certainly makes up for it in his spare time. He is an athlete of extraordinary endurance having run the London Marathon five times and the Great North Run fifteen times!
Add to that his passion for walking and football, scuba diving and golf and you could be forgiven for wondering how he finds time for a day job! However his greatest pride is his wife, Irene and their two daughters and he loves to spend his time playing and chasing after his grandchildren.

Residential and Leasehold Conveyancing Sales and Purchases, Mortgages and Re-Mortgages, Home Equity Release Mortgages, Transfers of Equity, Deeds of Gift and Council House Purchases.
He and his experienced team also work closely with Close Thornton's Property Shop and are able to offer clients a one-stop service when selling their property.
