LOCAL SOLICITOR TAKES THE HELM AT THE NEWTON AYCLIFFE ROTARY CLUB

Release date: July 2005

David Hogg, a Partner at Close Thornton Solicitors in Darlington, has been appointed President of the Rotary Club at Newton Aycliffe from 1st July 2005.

The Club, which has over 40 members, was founded in 1977 and supports many charities, both locally and overseas. ‘My hope is to expand membership from the business community in Newton Aycliffe and the surrounding areas so that we can continue to develop our charitable activities’.

David’s favoured charity for the year is the Great North Air Ambulance, but the Club is involved with many other projects; including supplying water purifying “Aquafilters” and Mosquito nets to Third World Countries in Southern Africa; holding a Charity Golf day in September; taking a team of local disabled athletes to the Northern Disabled Games at Eston as well as many other events throughout the year.

David is a keen narrow boat enthusiast and, when free from his legal and charitable commitments, can often be seen along with his partner Tina at the helm of his boat on the Ripon Canal and Yorkshire waterways.
