Close Thornton, the well known Darlington solicitors, are celebrating securing the appointment of John Lewis as their new head of Family Law.
John, who is an advanced member of the Law Society Family Panel is also a member of 'Resolution' which is an organization of family lawyers dedicated to taking a non-confrontational approach to family problems. He said 'One of the most important things to remember about practicing family law, is that whatever is done and said can impact a family for generations. It is vitally important to consider the needs of the whole family and in particular, the best interests of the children.'
John came to law later in life, his first degree being in European history, literature and languages. Originally from South Wales, (John was made a freeman of Llantrisant at 21), he completed his legal studies in Teesside before practicing in London, North Yorkshire and County Durham.
His commitment to supporting families is also evident in his voluntary work; he has spent much of his own time working for the Citizens' Advice Bureau.
Chris Wiper, senior partner at Close Thornton said 'We approached John on the basis of his excellent reputation and so we are delighted that he has decided to come on board. We are committed to providing a caring and personalized service as well as an efficient one and John shares these values.
The new addition to the Close Thornton team is a lover of film, theatre and literature as well as being a cricket fan (he's a member of Durham Cricket Club). And, naturally, being Welsh, Rugby is very close to his heart!
