Local firm Close Thornton Solicitors have sponsored trophies for the Darlington Rugby Club U14 team. The trophies were awarded at the Club’s annual dinner.

Matthew Large, a Personal Injury lawyer at Close Thornton and rugby coach at the local club said:

"We are very keen to actively encourage the development of youth sport in the local community and are glad to have had the opportunity to sponsor trophies for this event."

The U14s were runners up in this year’s Durham County Cup. Alex Tate won Best Tourist for the team’s Scottish Border Tour 2002 and the award for best Kicker.

Thomas Young won two prestigious awards. He was chosen by DRFC coaches as the Player of the Season and also won the Players’ Player of the Year award, picked by the team itself.

The trophies were awarded at the DRFC Under 14s annual end of season awards dinner held at the club. About 75 parents, friends and players attended the dinner and the awards ceremony.
