| CONGRATULATIONS TO SUSAN MADDISON! |
|
Release date: July 2006
Susan Maddison has today celebrated 25 years of employment at Close Thornton Solicitors. She began her career on 27th July 1981 having completed a secretarial course at the TEC in Darlington. She had done a month's work experience at Eastbourne School in the town before joining the firm as a Junior Secretary.
Her first boss was John Witty, a former Senior Partner who is now retired. She then worked briefly for one of the other partners, Ralph Barton. When he left the firm in 1994 to concentrate on work for industrial tribunals, Susan became David Hogg's secretary and has carried out this role for the last twelve years.
When she started at the firm all documents were typed on manual typewriters. Wills and Conveyances were typed onto parchment and stitched by hand with green ribbon. If a typing mistake was made, the whole document had to be redone. Susan still has the needle used for this task in her desk drawer!
She said: 'The firm has always enjoyed a strong family atmosphere and, even after all this time, I still enjoy coming to work!'.
Susan celebrated at the firm's offices in Duke Street, where she provided a catered lunch for staff. Chris Wiper, the Senior Partner, presented Susan with a cake and a painting of Causey Pike in the Lake District where she likes to spend time when she is not in the office. Mr Wiper thanked her for her loyalty and for her contribution to the firm and its success in the town.
